Thinking: Berkeley With Me, Myself, and I.

Some random building I ate lunch outside of.
top: UO, $10 - shorts: F21, $15 - shoes: UO - bag: target - earrings: World Market, $5

Items I bought from UO, a boutique, and a street vendor.

Yesterday I took a little solo trip to a place of fond memories, Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley. When I was there I needed an opinion on a shirt I was contemplating buying and so I texted my sister a picture of it. We kept texting and when she found out I was there by myself her response was, "Are you lonely??" double question marks and all. I wasn't lonely, and had actually planned to go by myself. My plans didn't fall through with anyone else, I wasn't going to be in the area, I chose to go and spend the day with myself in a place I love. Notice that I said 'with myself' and not 'by myself'. Every once in awhile I want to spend time with just me. That doesn't mean sitting in my room on netflix eating junk food, because I do that often enough for it to be considered part of my routine. I mean going out and doing something that I would generally go do with friends with myself instead. Two years ago, I never would have done that. I would have felt extremely uncomfortable and never wanted to. But now, I think its something everyone should do on occasion. One of the girls I used to live with was talking to me about some things she was dealing with and I could really sense her need to be wanted by others, and so I asked her if she ever took a day to spend time with herself and she said no. So I suggested it to her and I think she was nervous about it. I don't think she felt super comfortable with the idea and I don't know if she's ever tried it. Its nice to spend the day within your own head formulating your own opinions and thoughts without someone else's input or stopping where you want for however long you want. I think of it as if you don't want to spend the day with yourself, why would someone else? Self-love is really important and I feel that often times the focus of self-love is on appearance. While thats also extremely necessary for a life of happiness I think self-love for your personality is equally necessary. So I challenge you to go see a movie wth yourself (its tough when you have popcorn and need use the restroom), go to a nice dinner with yourself, or go out of town with yourself. Understand while other people love to spend time with you. Until my next post, Elyse.

A New Beginning

Long time no talk! I unfortunately have not had much time to take pictures of my outfits. In fact, I kind of just forgot about this whole blog thing to be completely honest. A lot has changed since I posted last so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to kind of revamp my blog.
I came up with the title "Threads & Thinking" imagining that I would create a place for my love of clothes and also a place to share my thoughts about things that affect the world (does that even make sense?). Anyways, I haven't quite done the latter half of my blog title justice. Yesterday as I was reading in a local coffee shop the idea struck me. I should make my blog my "Thinking" half of "Threads & Thinking" with my youtube being the "Threads" part.
So now this blog will be dedicated to my reflections upon the things I read for class, world news, social problems, and critical consciousness.

Until my next post, Elyse.

Thinking #1: TED: Ideas Worth Spreading

So as the few of you who follow me may have recently noticed, I changed the name of my blog to "Threads & Thinking". I did this because I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys along with my love for style. So here is my very first official Thinking post:

A couple weeks ago, I got my first iPhone. I looked up top 100 free apps and started scrolling through them to see which ones I should download. I came across one called TED and thought it seemed interesting, so I got it.
TED is an app that has videos of people spreading their ideas all across the country. Before you immediately say no to getting this app or checking out the website here, I said ideas not ideals. On TED people aren't pushing their opinions onto you, instead they are telling you about their thoughts, their ideas on numerous subjects. Even if you only watch one video a week, I applaud you. I really admire this site because I think it is important, especially in today's world, to keep people thinking. To keep people interested in the world outside of their own little bubble. One of the videos I recently watched was about a woman who started a group of strangers writing love letters to people in need. This may sound weird, but it sounded very interesting. This woman's idea started with just herself and then resonated to people around the country to bring a smile or even happiness to those who need it. Please check out TED. You never know what ideas it will provoke within you.

Keep thinking. Keep questioning. Until my next post, Elyse.
